270 Form

      At Home Volunteer Hours

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding experiences and CGE offers many different opportunities to fit your busy schedule.  As a volunteer each of us has the chance to directly influence the educational environment of our children.  It is a rewarding way to increase one’s awareness of school issues, enrich children’s school experience, and have fun meeting other CGE families, community members and business partners.  Many volunteer opportunities are available at school or at home, on an on-going basis or as a one-time activity.
The first step in becoming a volunteer at CGE is to complete the required volunteer forms each academic year.  In order to volunteer at
CGE, in any capacity, each and every volunteer must complete two forms:  Martin County School District Volunteer Form 270 and a Volunteer Survey Form.  The School Board policy also requires the background portion of the 270 form to be filed every two years for the following volunteers:

Coaches, club sponsors, cheerleading sponsors, mentors, tutors.
All school site volunteers working with students who are not under the direct visual supervision of a School Board employee.
All school-sponsored trip chaperones who might not always be under the direct visual supervision of a School Board employee, i.e., taking students to the restroom.

The cost of the background check is $24 and takes approximately 8 weeks to complete.

A Volunteer Orientation Breakfast is scheduled for Friday, August 28 at 8:30 a.m.  During the orientation, volunteers will learn about the many volunteer opportunities at CGE as well as the policies, procedures and guidelines pertaining to volunteers, mentors, business and community partners as outlined in the Martin County School District Volunteer and Community Involvement Handbook. Volunteers are asked to download a copy of the handbook available on this website, or a copy may be requested at the orientation. Each volunteer is required to read the handbook and sign a statement agreeing to comply with the terms therein.

While on campus, every volunteer must sign in and out in the front office and wear a “volunteer” identification badge.  If a volunteer forgets to sign out, then the computer will default to only 30 minute allotment of credit.

For parents who are volunteering at home – classroom preparation, planning parties, fundraising, holiday float, etc. – an at home log is available for your use.  This form is located on this website, in the front office, Volunteer Coordination Office, room 148, or the PTA Volunteer Room 130.  Hours should be logged and the form returned to Volunteer Coordination at the end of each month.
